Hardwood Stairs & Treads
When Calabrese takes on a stair project, whether it’s a full install or a refinish, we treat it like it’s in our own home. We don’t believe in shortcuts or one-size-fits-all solutions. We match the wood, the finish, and the layout so your stairs look like they’ve always belonged. If you’re in Firestone, Longmont, Loveland, or anywhere in the Denver Metro, Calabrese Hardwood brings craftsmanship and years of hardwood experience to every job. From solid white oak treads to custom landings and transitions, the staircase will fit your floors, your space, and your style.
Custom Stair Solutions
We do more then install stairs… we build staircases that actually work with the rest of your home. If you’re upgrading an outdated setup or adding stairs to a new space, we offer:
- Solid hardwood treads (including white oak, hickory, maple, walnut and more)
- Boxed staircases and open-riser designs
- Custom landings, nosing, and transitions
- Matching handrails, trim, and risers
- Step-down transitions from floor to stair
If your current staircase has carpet or builder-grade materials, we can strip it down and install new hardwood that ties in seamlessly with the rest of your floors. Every cut is made with care, and every joint lines up clean.
Stair Refinishing, Done Right
Hardwood stairs take a beating and over time, all that traffic starts to show. Scratches, worn-out stain, and dull finishes can make your stairs the weakest link in an otherwise beautiful home. At Calabrese Hardwood, we refinish wood stairs with the same care and precision we bring to full floor restorations.
Whether you’re in Longmont, Firestone, Erie, or anywhere in the Denver Metro, we’ll strip the old finish, smooth out damage, and re-stain each tread by hand. No dusty mess since our sanding setup keeps things clean while we work. From there, we seal the wood with a professional-grade finish that holds up to daily wear.
Looking for something unique? We also offer customized CalaSmoke designs, our signature smoked hardwood treatment, for a rich, lived-in look that adds depth and character to stair treads. It’s a great option if you want something beyond a basic stain, especially in modern or rustic homes.
We don’t rush the process or use generic materials. We match the color and sheen so your stairs blend seamlessly with your floors or stand out, if that’s the look you’re going for. If your stairs were once covered in carpet or builder-grade finishes, we’ll bring out the character that’s been hiding underneath. Your staircase is the heart of your home’s movement. Let’s make sure it looks the part.

CalaSmoke Stair Detailing
We also offer CalaSmoke, our signature electro-burning technique that turns hardwood into functional art. Using high-voltage electricity, we create bold, branching patterns, known as Lichtenberg figures, burned directly into each tread. No stains, no stamps, no shortcuts. This is a permanent process that reacts with the wood itself, leaving behind deep, organic designs that are sealed in crystal-clear epoxy.
Hardwood Floor Pattern Styles We Install
Straight Lay (Traditional)

The most common pattern where the boards are laid side by side along the length or width of the room. Clean, timeless, and versatile.
Diagonal

Like straight lay, but rotated 45°. Adds subtle interest and makes narrow rooms feel wider.
Random Width

Uses two or three board widths in a repeating or non-repeating pattern. Creates a rustic or handcrafted feel.
Herringbone

A classic zigzag pattern where boards meet at a 90° angle. Ideal for adding a high-end, European look to entryways or formal rooms.
Chevron

Similar to herringbone, but boards are cut at an angle to create a clean “V” pattern. Sleeker and more symmetrical.
Parquet

Parquet brings intricate geometric patterns, from classic Versailles to modern mosaics, turning your floor into a true statement piece.
Border Inlays

Border inlays add a tailored frame around your room, highlighting the layout with contrasting wood tones or patterns for a custom, high-end finish.
3D Cube (Tumbling Block)

A complex geometric illusion made with three contrasting wood tones. Makes your floor pop with depth and character.
Picture Frame

Framing the room or a central design area with a distinct wood border creating focus and visual separation.
Mixed Species / Color-Tone

Use multiple wood types (like walnut and maple) or contrasting stains to create unique visual patterns or logos.
