Your floors don’t need to look like everyone else’s, they should reflect your space, your style, and how you actually live. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with 2 1/4 red oak, it’s a classic look. At Calabrese Hardwood Arvada, we love projects that are outside of what is considered “cookie-cutter.” We specialize in true custom hardwood flooring that’s built with intention, installed with precision, and designed to last for decades.

What Custom Hardwood Looks Like

If you’re not shopping for stock flooring and need help designing something has an original, classy touch, we are what you are looking for. At Calabrese Hardwood, we specialize in custom hardwood floor design and installation that’s unique to your home. No templates. No shortcuts. Just solid craftsmanship, smart guidance, and a floor you won’t see anywhere else.

Intentional Layouts

Herringbone, chevron, wide plank, mixed-width, diagonal… the pattern should fit the space, not just follow a trend. We’ll help you find what works visually and structurally for your home.

The Right Wood for the Job

From White Oak and Walnut to Hickory or Maple, we help you choose a species based on durability, grain, color, and how your home is lived in, not just what’s popular.

Custom Finishes

We mix stains, test them on your actual wood, and help you choose a tone and sheen that fits the light and traffic in your space. We also walk you through the pros and cons of site-finished vs. prefinished, so you know what to expect.

Transitions That Flow Naturally

Floors should transition into stairs, tile, and other materials without awkward seams or filler pieces. We think through the full layout before we ever cut a board.

One-of-a-Kind Work

For something completely unique, we offer Calasmoke, a custom technique using electrical burning (also known as Lichtenberg) to create dramatic, lightning-like patterns sealed under a durable finish. It’s bold, it’s different, and it’s built to last.

Where Calasmoke Flooring Works Best

There’s a lot of “custom” floors are just standard boards with a fancy label. What we do is actual custom work, designed from the subfloor up and built around how your home flows. You’ll work directly with Owner Mike Wong, from start to finish. No subcontractors. No pressure. Just honest guidance and clean, skilled craftsmanship.

Hardwood Floor Pattern Styles We Install

  • Straight Lay (Traditional)

Dining room with hardwood floor, large chandelier, and windows.

The most common pattern where the boards are laid side by side along the length or width of the room. Clean, timeless, and versatile.

  • Diagonal

Like straight lay, but rotated 45°. Adds subtle interest and makes narrow rooms feel wider.

  • Random Width

Empty room with light wood floors, gray walls, and a window.

Uses two or three board widths in a repeating or non-repeating pattern. Creates a rustic or handcrafted feel.

  • Herringbone

Herringbone pattern wood flooring in a room with white trim and light gray walls.

A classic zigzag pattern where boards meet at a 90° angle. Ideal for adding a high-end, European look to entryways or formal rooms.

  • Chevron

Herringbone pattern hardwood floor, stained medium brown, in a room with white walls.

Similar to herringbone, but boards are cut at an angle to create a clean “V” pattern. Sleeker and more symmetrical.

  • Parquet

Parquet brings intricate geometric patterns, from classic Versailles to modern mosaics, turning your floor into a true statement piece.

  • Border Inlays

Border inlays add a tailored frame around your room, highlighting the layout with contrasting wood tones or patterns for a custom, high-end finish.

  • 3D Cube (Tumbling Block)

Geometric wood floor pattern creates a 3D optical illusion, with light and dark brown tones.

A complex geometric illusion made with three contrasting wood tones. Makes your floor pop with depth and character.

  • Picture Frame

Wooden floor with parquet pattern, bordered by dark wood, and staircase in a home.

Framing the room or a central design area with a distinct wood border creating focus and visual separation.

  • Mixed Species / Color-Tone

Kitchen island with gray cabinets, black hardware, and light countertop on wood floor.
